Windy Wash

Club Tri 4 Saw a range of different race options for our competitors as the choppy windswept conditions made for a challenging swim leg. There was a swathe of new competitors for the short course with 12 on board and 2 teams. Many competitors also tried a mixture of both courses, going for the longer course option in their favoured legs showing great spirit to push themselves that little bit further.

Daniel Fisher was our short course champion with a strong run seeing him home over Michael O Donnell. The season standings have tightened right up with the Greay’s battling it out for short course honor’s.

Josh Marshall was our lone brave Male long course competitor while Dree Campbell and Lucy Anderton were flying the flag for the Females.

A big thankyou to 6 Degrees for their continued support in providing the spot prize. Zeb Campbell will be dining like a king as he continued his incredible hot streak in the raffle.

Look forward to seeing everyone on March 1st for the Albany Sprint, the marquee event of the calendar. It is an amazing day and definitely worth everyone getting down to.

Will also take this opportunity to update members and followers on the location for our final club tri to be held on 29th March. Unlike the previous Club Tri’s this season finale event is to be held at Whalers Cove, providing a refreshing change of scenery for regular competitors and a fantastic location for the battles for the season championship bragging rights.

Return of the Ironmen

Club tri 2 was a fantastic event with perfect conditions for triathlon on the day.

Long course honors in the men’s went to Jackson Pittman, an impressive time of 1:02:36, particularly fresh off the return from a grueling 10 hr Busselton Ironman performance.

Quick mention to the 2 other albany tri club regulars competing at the Ironman event, Nathan Small and Toby Le Fort. All 3 did Albany proud with incredible finish times at just over the 10hr mark. World championships may see 3 of Albany’s finest soon enough.

The Womens long course was a smaller field with Louisa Bell taking the win, improving on her Club Tri 1 time by over 2 minutes.

In the short course Victoria snatched victory with an excellent run after finishing the bike with Brydie right alongside her.

Sunshine …Snakes…Slowly dropping water levels

What a way to get the club season going. Excellent turnout with 20 solo competitors and 2 teams making the most of the sunshine in what were fantastic triathlon conditions.

While the harbor seemed to drain with every lap of the swim, competitors raced around to ensure they took advantage of the early depth to swim the majority of the course uninterrupted.

A stiffening breeze meant riders came home with the wind as they took advantage of natures supporting hand on the return leg. However, the same breeze appeared to go missing for the run and really turned up the heat on the stretch for home.

Legless locals looked on, some getting perhaps a little close for comfort as they slithered their way into the run turn but even they didn’t deter our spirited sprinters.

It was a close finish in the men’s long course with Jaxon Smeed pipping John Toomey at the post while the women’s was Dree Campbell with a fantastic performance.

In the short course Ken Willis took the prize in a great effort particularly on the bike with Trevor Greary finishing strong in the run to very nearly catch.
