Southern Ports Sprint Tri 2021

What a great event and a big Thank you to Darryl Hancock in particular for his tireless efforts in organising it to go so smoothly. See the results below of a huge effort by our competitors in some testing conditions ( made notably more testing by the somewhat extended swim length).

6 Degrees Club Tri #4 Cancelled

Forecast extreme weather conditions following the cyclone on WA’s northwest has forced us to cancel Club Tri 4 on 7.2.21. The Committee will work with the City of Albany to try and reschedule an event at Whalers Cove for the end of the season. In the meantime get yourselves ready to battle the mountain in the marquee event, the Southern Ports Albany Sprint Triathlon

Try A Tri 2020

Try a Tri 2020 was a big success with a strong turnout particularly with new faces in the short course. Conditions were perfect and the music was pumping as our competitors showed they hadn’t lost anything over a challenging winter.

Impulse cycles we’re tremendously generous in their prizes offered both to winners and as spot prizes. In particular the Garmin Forerunner 935XT which now finds its way onto the arm of one Suzanne Peacock ( who also scored herself chocolate and a voucher to go along with it).

Thansk to all who we’re involved competitors and volunteers alike and we look forward to seeing you all at the next event, the 6 Degrees Club Tri #1 at Emu point on 15th November.

Results Below and also available on the Season 2020/21 results page with the championship points allocation.

Try-A-Tri 2020

We’ve all shown pretty good resilience this year. Come out of lock down fitter, stronger and more determined than ever. Show the world your grit and just how well you stand up when things are looking tough.

Or you know, just come and run around a bit. Have a laugh and enjoy the outdoors. Triathlon is your sport, its your game, you choose whether the day is a win or a loss.

Choose to win!

We will be having a kids Aquathon before the above mentioned Try-A-Tri. Registration at 7am and we hope to have the kids in the water by 7.30am. The distances will be a 100m swim and a 500m run. If that’s too far then participate with whatever distance suits. Free entry for the Kids Aquathon so bring them along

SEASON 2020/21 IS HERE!!

Tell your friends come down for when it all begins at TRY -A TRI on November 1. A great chance for those new to the sport to find out what is all about and get some tips from our veterans as they dust off their kit for another season of testing just how far they can push themselves!

Well, can you believe it’s that time of year again!

Icebreaker swim in 2 weeks for those who dare, wetsuits recommended …… for buoyancy and speed of course!

Come and have a coffee afterwards and share your preseason plans!

Club Tri 5 at Whalers Cove cancelled

In line with recent developments in the Covid 19 pandemic, Triathlon WA has advised all triathlon events statewide are no longer sanctioned in an effort to mitigate the spread of the virus.

This decision is 100% supported by the Albany triathlon club and the final club tri event of the season planned for whalers cove will as such be cancelled. It is a shame being that it was to be the first different course in a while but member and participant safety is the number one priority.

Albany Sprint Course & Event Information Package

For all those competing in the upcoming Albany Sprint Triathlon or Duathlon on Sunday 1st March, the competitor information pack is available for download at the link below. The pack includes registration and check in details as well as maps and directions for each leg of the events.

There will also be a post event windup at 6 degrees starting from 3PM on race day where you can come down, enjoy a drink (hopefully shouted for you by a lucky spot prize winner) and give your fellow competitors a bit of stick for all the drafting they did off you.

The Rumor are true…. Whalers Cove Finale

It has been confirmed that the Final Club Tri event of the season held on the 29th of March will be at Whalers cove and not the usual Emu Point course.

For those who want to challenge themselves on offer will be a classic distance triathlon ( 1250m swim, 30km ride, 8km run) as well as the usual Sprint distance.

The Club is trying to get some alternate courses into the mix for a change of scenery (and competitor tactics) so please come down to support this fantastic initiative.

A BBQ will be held after the event so bring the family, enjoy fresh scenery and get some delicious sausage nutrition into our weary competitors.

Windy Wash

Club Tri 4 Saw a range of different race options for our competitors as the choppy windswept conditions made for a challenging swim leg. There was a swathe of new competitors for the short course with 12 on board and 2 teams. Many competitors also tried a mixture of both courses, going for the longer course option in their favoured legs showing great spirit to push themselves that little bit further.

Daniel Fisher was our short course champion with a strong run seeing him home over Michael O Donnell. The season standings have tightened right up with the Greay’s battling it out for short course honor’s.

Josh Marshall was our lone brave Male long course competitor while Dree Campbell and Lucy Anderton were flying the flag for the Females.

A full list of results and the standings table can both be found here

A big thankyou to 6 Degrees for their continued support in providing the spot prize. Zeb Campbell will be dining like a king as he continued his incredible hot streak in the raffle.

Look forward to seeing everyone on March 1st for the Albany Sprint, the marquee event of the calendar. It is an amazing day and definitely worth everyone getting down to.

Will also take this opportunity to update members and followers on the location for our final club tri to be held on 29th March. Unlike the previous Club Tri’s this season finale event is to be held at Whalers Cove, providing a refreshing change of scenery for regular competitors and a fantastic location for the battles for the season championship bragging rights.

Return of the Ironmen

Club tri 2 was a fantastic event with perfect conditions for triathlon on the day.

Long course honors in the men’s went to Jackson Pittman, an impressive time of 1:02:36, particularly fresh off the return from a grueling 10 hr Busselton Ironman performance.

Quick mention to the 2 other albany tri club regulars competing at the Ironman event, Nathan Small and Toby Le Fort. All 3 did Albany proud with incredible finish times at just over the 10hr mark. World championships may see 3 of Albany’s finest soon enough.

The Womens long course was a smaller field with Louisa Bell taking the win, improving on her Club Tri 1 time by over 2 minutes.

In the short course Victoria snatched victory with an excellent run after finishing the bike with Brydie right alongside her.

Sunshine …Snakes…Slowly dropping water levels

What a way to get the club season going. Excellent turnout with 20 solo competitors and 2 teams making the most of the sunshine in what were fantastic triathlon conditions.

While the harbor seemed to drain with every lap of the swim, competitors raced around to ensure they took advantage of the early depth to swim the majority of the course uninterrupted.

A stiffening breeze meant riders came home with the wind as they took advantage of natures supporting hand on the return leg. However, the same breeze appeared to go missing for the run and really turned up the heat on the stretch for home.

Legless locals looked on, some getting perhaps a little close for comfort as they slithered their way into the run turn but even they didn’t deter our spirited sprinters.

It was a close finish in the men’s long course with Jaxon Smeed pipping John Toomey at the post while the women’s was Dree Campbell with a fantastic performance.

In the short course Ken Willis took the prize in a great effort particularly on the bike with Trevor Greary finishing strong in the run to very nearly catch.

A big thank you to our Sponsor, 6 Degrees, who put up a $25 spot prize for the entrants, the Campbell Clan were the lucky winners.

As the last event before the Christmas break, entrants to our December 8th event will have a chance at a special Christmas spot prize, a 10L Ridge Ryder Thermocooler car fridge, perfect for keeping the nutrition and drinks ready to go over a long event day. So Get down, Get involved and you might get an early visit from Triathlete Santa.

Try a … Aquathon?

A keen crowd of about 30 competitors enjoyed a modified Impulse Cycles – Albany Tri Club Swim-Run event at Emu Point this morning.

Important Western Power works on Golf Links Rd meant the bike course was out of action but this didn’t stop individuals and teams completing both short and long course swim-run events.

Things were ideal for the swim with the tide high and water calm. The run leg on the foreshore path was also enjoyable in the mild weather conditions.

Male, female and team place getters received gift vouchers from Impulse Cycles and one lucky entrant won the major prize draw of a new Garmin sports watch, again thanks to Impulse Cycles.

Our next event is in two weeks, again at Emu Point. We hope to see you there….and this time bring your bike!
